    Summary

    Sinus node dysfunction frequently coexists with complete atrioventricular block. This study found prolonged sinus node recovery time in 23% and abnormal percentage change in 30% of patients, indicating common sinus node dysfunction.

    Background:

    • Complete atrioventricular block (CAVB) is a serious cardiac condition.
    • Sinus node dysfunction (SND) can affect heart rate regulation.
    • The coexistence of CAVB and SND requires further investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To determine the incidence of sinus node dysfunction in patients with symptomatic complete atrioventricular block.
    • To assess sinus node recovery time (SNRT) parameters in this patient cohort.

    Main Methods:

    • Thirty symptomatic patients with complete atrioventricular block were enrolled.
    • Sinus node recovery time was measured using standardized electrophysiological protocols.
    • Corrected sinus node recovery time and percentage change from basic cycle length were analyzed.

    Main Results:

    • Prolonged corrected sinus node recovery time (>560 msec) was observed in 7 patients (23%).
    • Abnormal sinus node recovery time percentage change (>170%) was found in 9 patients (30%).
    • Mean values for these parameters were 563 msec and 179%, respectively.

    Conclusions:

    • Sinus node dysfunction frequently coexists with complete atrioventricular block.
    • Electrophysiological assessment of sinus node function is crucial in patients with CAVB.
    • These findings highlight the importance of evaluating both conduction systems in cardiac patients.
