[Effect of a beta-sympathomimetic agent on accommodation of skeletal muscles (author's transl)]

An effect of the sympathetic nervous system on accommodation of skeletal muscles was shown by determining the "Reizungsdivisor" (exponential current threshold/square wave threshold) of 8 muscles of both upper extremities in 10 patients before and after the oral administration of terbutaline sulphate. The decrease in the "Reizungsdivisor" after oral administration of beta-2-mimetics reflects a change in accommodation probably due to processes of repolarisation in the muscle fibres due to sympathetic influence. Parallels with the cutaneous application of ice can be drawn.
