    Background:

    • Bacterial prostatitis remains a challenging condition to treat.
    • Understanding antibiotic penetration into prostatic tissue is crucial for effective therapy.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To quantify cefaclor concentrations in human prostatic tissue.
    • To assess the potential of cefaclor for treating bacterial prostatitis.

    Main Methods:

    • Ten patients undergoing suprapubic prostatectomy received oral cefaclor (250mg or 500mg).
    • Prostatic tissue and plasma concentrations of cefaclor were measured.
    • Prostate/plasma ratios were calculated to assess drug accumulation.

    • Average prostatic tissue concentrations were 0.51 ± 0.22 µg/g (250mg) and 0.74 ± 0.67 µg/g (500mg).
