[Osteomesopycnosis. A new autosomal dominant osteosclerosing bone disease (author's transl)]

The term osteomesopycnosis is proposed for a sclerosing bone disease with dominant inheritance that has been discovered in five members of four different families. The disease most frequently presents in adolescents or young adults because of lumbar or thoracic pain. The radiological abnormalities consist of dense vertebral plates, pelvis and sometimes the upper part of femur. The skull, ribs, long bones, hands and foot bones are not affected. The only complication is pain and there is no increased risk of fractures or bone infection. The condition must be distinguished from osteopetrosis as this condition has a much worse prognosis.
