[Proper management of numbers--some references for the clinically active physician]

Even common medical practice cannot be performed without using figures and some kind of basic statistics. Unfortunately this field is complicated by many pitfalls. In the paper several examples are given how to find and how to avoid them. This is completed by a selection of underlying principles of statistics.
