    Summary

    Combined spinal epidural anesthesia (CSEA) is effective for various surgeries. While generally safe, it can cause temporary hemodynamic and hemostasis changes, which remain within normal limits.

    Background:

    • Combined spinal epidural anesthesia (CSEA) is a technique offering advantages in surgical procedures.
    • The Portex kit is a specific device used for administering CSEA.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of CSEA using a Portex kit.
    • To assess hemodynamic and hemostasis changes during CSEA.

    Main Methods:

    • CSEA was performed on 62 patients undergoing orthopedic, urological, and gynecological surgeries.
    • Hemodynamics were monitored using tetrapolar chest rheography.
    • Hemostasis was assessed via electrocoagulography.

    Main Results:

    • A high success rate of 98% was achieved for satisfactory anesthesia.
    • One instance of accidental subarachnoid puncture with a Tuohy needle was reported.
    • Spinal block induction was associated with reduced cardiac output and hypocoagulable states.
    • All monitored hemodynamic and hemostasis parameters remained within normal physiological ranges.

    Conclusions:

    • CSEA with the Portex kit is an effective and generally safe anesthetic technique.
    • Potential transient hemodynamic and hemostasis alterations during CSEA are usually well-tolerated.
    • Careful needle technique is important to minimize risks like accidental dural puncture.
