Summary

Prostatic surgical bed lithiasis, a rare complication after transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), requires prompt diagnosis. This case highlights successful treatment of magnesium ammonium phosphate stones using intracorporeal lithotripsy.

Background:

  • Prostatic surgical bed lithiasis is an uncommon complication following transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).
  • Early diagnosis and appropriate management are crucial for patient outcomes.
  • Adenomyomatous prostatic hyperplasia is a common indication for TURP.

Observation:

  • A patient developed magnesium ammonium phosphate hourglass lithiasis in the prostatic surgical bed 1.5 years post-TURP.
  • The patient presented with a dysuric syndrome.
  • Diagnosis was aided by digital rectal examination (DRE) and plain abdominal films.

Findings:

  • Successful treatment was achieved with intracorporeal lithotripsy using the Lithoclast device.
  • Retrograde endoscopic manipulation combined with ultrasonic or pneumatic lithotripsy is recommended.
