Acquired toxoplasmosis can cause unilateral focal chorioretinitis in adults. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent vision loss from this parasitic eye infection.

Background:

  • Ocular toxoplasmosis is a common cause of posterior uveitis.
  • Acquired toxoplasmosis can present with focal chorioretinitis.

Observation:

  • A case series of eight adult patients with unilateral focal chorioretinitis was studied.
  • Patients presented with recently acquired Toxoplasma gondii infection.

Findings:

  • All patients exhibited unilateral focal chorioretinitis without posterior pole scars.
  • Laboratory tests confirmed acquired Toxoplasma gondii infection, with positive IgM and IgG antibodies.
  • Five patients showed increased intraocular antibody production.
