Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of sterile CNS surgery on immune reactivity.
  • To determine if decreased monocytic human leukocyte antigen-DR (HLA-DR) expression indicates immunodepression.
  • To evaluate the utility of HLA-DR expression for identifying patients at high risk of infection.

  • Prospective study involving 46 patients undergoing sterile CNS surgery.
  • Monocytic HLA-DR expression measured by flow cytometry in blood samples within 3 days post-surgery.

  • Measuring monocytic HLA-DR expression can aid in identifying high-risk patients following neurosurgery.
