Background:
- Hodgkin's disease refractory to standard chemotherapy has a poor prognosis.
- Bone marrow transplantation is considered for chemo-sensitive refractory disease.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of the ABDIC regimen in patients with relapsed or refractory Hodgkin's disease.
Main Methods:
- 19 patients received the modified Hagemeister ABDIC regimen (doxorubicin, bleomycin, dacarbazine, lomustine, prednisone) every 28 days.
- Continuous infusion of doxorubicin and dacarbazine was utilized.
Main Results:
- A 63% overall response rate was observed, with 12 partial and 2 complete responses.
- Two patients achieved long-term disease-free survival after subsequent bone marrow transplantation.
- Treatment was generally well tolerated, with nausea and bone marrow suppression as main toxicities.
Conclusions:
- The ABDIC regimen is an active and well-tolerated therapy for relapsed/refractory Hodgkin's disease, even in patients previously treated with ABVD.
- ABDIC followed by bone marrow transplantation offers potential for long-term disease-free survival in heavily pretreated patients.
