Background:

  • Endodermal sinus tumors (ESTs) are germ cell neoplasms with complex histology.
  • Understanding their cellular origin and differentiation is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the cytoskeletal and phenotypic markers of ESTs.
  • To determine the cellular origin and classification of these tumors.

Main Methods:

  • Immunohistochemistry was performed on five ESTs (2 ovarian, 2 testicular, 1 inguinal).
  • Cytoskeletal expression was analyzed using SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting.
  • Expression of cytokeratins, vimentin, desmin, neurofilament, glial filament protein, desmoplakin, alpha-fetoprotein, and S-100 protein was assessed.
