Background:

Chronic wound pain is prevalent but under-researched.
Existing literature lacks a comprehensive model for the chronic wound pain experience (CWPE).

Observation:

The study developed an empirically and inductively derived model of the chronic wound pain experience (CWPE).
The CWPE model includes theoretical definitions of its subcomponents: noncyclic acute wound pain, cyclic acute wound pain, and chronic wound pain.

Findings:

The proposed model integrates the CWPE within the nursing process.
It links the CWPE to established nursing diagnoses.
Intervention schemes are proposed to enhance patient outcomes.

Implications:

This model provides a framework for understanding and managing chronic wound pain.
It highlights the need for targeted nursing interventions.
Further research is needed to validate and refine the CWPE model and associated interventions.
