The politics of specialist/advanced practice: conflict or confusion?

This article explores the discrepancies between bench marks and the ad hoc development of specialisms. It suggests an agenda for remedying the invisibility of nursing in the shaping of health-care policy. Particular reference is made to the need for nurses to shape future policy on how the nursing workforce should be developed and utilised.
