Insights
Long-term outcomes for 35 children with lateral humeral condyle fractures show good results in most cases. This study analyzes treatment effectiveness and common complications for pediatric elbow fractures.
Area of Science:
- Orthopedics
- Pediatric Surgery
- Traumatology
Background:
- Lateral humeral condyle fractures are common pediatric elbow injuries.
- Optimal treatment is crucial for preventing long-term complications and ensuring functional recovery.
- Previous studies have reported varying outcomes and complications.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the long-term results of treating lateral humeral condyle fractures in children.
- To identify common errors and complications associated with these fractures.
- To provide insights into best practices for managing pediatric elbow fractures.
Main Methods:
- Retrospective review of 35 pediatric patients treated for lateral humeral condyle fractures.
- Long-term follow-up assessment with a mean duration of 8.2 years.
- Analysis of treatment outcomes, complications, and potential contributing factors.
Main Results:
- Overall, 31 out of 35 patients (88.6%) achieved good long-term results.
- Four patients experienced poor outcomes, necessitating further investigation into causes.
- Common complications and treatment errors were identified and discussed.
Conclusions:
- Surgical treatment of lateral humeral condyle fractures in children can yield favorable long-term outcomes.
- Careful surgical technique and diligent post-operative management are essential to minimize complications.
- Understanding common errors is key to improving treatment strategies for pediatric elbow fractures.
Abstract:
The long-term results of the lateral humeral condyle fracture treatment in 35 children are presented. The mean follow-up was 8.2 years. There were 31 good results and 4 poor. The most common errors and complication are discussed.
