Summary

Treatment with picotesla (pT) range electromagnetic fields (EMFs) significantly improved visuoperceptive and visuospatial functions in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. This therapy enhanced body image perception, particularly facial details, in MS patients with cognitive deficits.

Background:

  • Multiple sclerosis (MS) is linked to cognitive deficits, including visuoperceptive and visuomotor impairments.
  • The Human Figure Drawing Test assesses visuoperceptive, visuospatial, and visuoconstructional abilities.

Observation:

  • Prior to electromagnetic field (EMF) treatment, MS patients' drawings showed distortions and poor perception, suggesting right posterior hemispheric dysfunction.
  • EMF application in the picotesla (pT) range was previously shown to improve cognitive functions in MS.

Findings:

  • Five MS patients administered the Human Figure Drawing Test showed marked improvement after pT EMF treatment.
  • Improvements were noted in motor disability and drawing accuracy, especially facial details, correlating with right parietal lobe function.
