    • Clinical Psychology

    Background:

    • Chronic schizophrenia presents significant challenges to psychological and physical well-being.
    • Exercise interventions are increasingly explored as complementary therapies for psychiatric conditions.

    Observation:

    • A young male patient diagnosed with chronic schizophrenia engaged in a 12-week progressive exercise program.
    • Psychiatric and observational scales were used to assess changes throughout the intervention.

    Findings:

    • Significant improvements were observed in psychological functioning, including communication, animation, personal interest, motivation, and body image insight.
    • The patient demonstrated enhanced physical fitness levels.
    • Reductions in motor retardation and body tension were noted.

    Implications:

    • Progressive exercise programs may offer a viable non-pharmacological approach to managing symptoms of chronic schizophrenia.
    • Exercise can positively influence both mental state and physical health in individuals with schizophrenia.
    • Further research into exercise's role in schizophrenia treatment is warranted.
