Lupus anticoagulant (LA) strongly associates with venous thromboembolism (VTE), aiding diagnosis. Anticardiolipin antibodies (ACLA) lack clinical use in VTE patients. Neither LA nor APLA predicted warfarin resistance or recurrence in this study.

- To assess the association of lupus anticoagulant (LA) and anticardiolipin antibodies (ACLA) with VTE.

- 14% of VTE patients had LA; ACLA showed no association with VTE.
- No recurrent VTE observed in patients with APLA on warfarin; no difference in recurrence post-discontinuation.
Conclusions:
- Testing for LA is clinically useful in VTE patients.
- ACLA measurement lacks clinical utility in VTE due to high false positive rates.
- APLA presence did not correlate with warfarin resistance or increased VTE recurrence risk in this cohort.
