Abstract:
A method for labeling of porcine platelets with Indium-111 oxine (8-hydroxyquinoline) is described. Mean labeling efficiency was 78.8% (+/- 8.8%, SD), platelet function remained intact as measured by aggregometry in response to acid citrate dextrose, and the procedure took an average of 159 min (2 h, 39 min), including considerable walking distances in the laboratory. A short listing of other methods for labeling of porcine platelets and platelets from other animal species is included. The described method is easy to perform, has a constantly high labeling efficiency, and is no more time-consuming than other methods.
