Summary

Newborn lambs show increasing hypoxic sensitivity in the first 3-4 weeks of life. This ventilatory response to low oxygen declines in adulthood, unlike hypercapnic sensitivity which remains stable.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the developmental trajectory of ventilatory responses to progressive hypoxia and hypercapnia in lambs from birth to 6 weeks of age.
  • To compare hypoxic and hypercapnic sensitivity between lambs and adult ewes.
