Background:

Age-related cognitive decline is a significant area of research.
Understanding the nature of cognitive slowing in older adults is crucial for interventions.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate age-related differences in cognitive processing speed.
To determine if cognitive slowing in older adults is domain-specific or general.

Main Methods:

Eight nonlexical cognitive tasks were administered to older and young adults.
Response times (RTs) and error rates were analyzed.
Mathematical modeling (Brinley function) was used to compare RTs between age groups.
