A new technique for bilateral single stoma loop cutaneous ureterostomy

Summary

A novel cutaneous ureterostomy technique was developed for patients with pelvic tumors or spinal cord injury. This method achieved a tubeless state in over 90% of patients, reducing risks associated with ureteral tension.

Surgical Innovation

Background:

Cutaneous ureterostomy is a surgical procedure for urinary diversion.
Prior techniques may have limitations in terms of indications and complication risks.

Purpose of the Study:

To introduce and evaluate a new technique for cutaneous ureterostomy.
To compare its efficacy and advantages against existing methods.

Main Methods:

The new technique was applied to 15 patients with pelvic tumors and 3 patients with spinal cord injury.
Patient data was collected between January 1992 and January 1994.

Main Results:

A tubeless state was successfully achieved in over 90% of the treated patients.
The technique demonstrated a high success rate in managing urinary diversion.
