    Area of Science:

    • Oncology
    • Radiology
    • Pathology

    Background:

    • Mammography and cytology are standard screening tools for breast cancer.
    • Negative results from these tests can sometimes lead to a false sense of security.

    Observation:

    • This case report details a patient with clinical signs suggestive of breast cancer.
    • Both mammography and cytological examination yielded negative results, failing to detect malignancy.

    Findings:

    • Despite negative mammogram and cytology, the patient was ultimately diagnosed with breast cancer.
    • This underscores the limitations of relying solely on classical diagnostic methods.

    Implications:

    • Highlights the potential for diagnostic errors in breast cancer detection.
    • Suggests the need for heightened clinical suspicion and potentially further diagnostic investigations when results are discordant.
    • Emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive diagnostic approach in oncology.
