Clinical risk management: measuring practices and outcomes to change behavior and reduce liability

Abstract:
Clinical risk management programs can modify clinical practices, improve patient outcomes, and have a positive impact on liability losses, as evidenced by MMI's experiences with 250 organizations participating in its clinical risk modification programs in obstetrics and anesthesia. Managing risk in the new health care delivery system is an important strategic activity. With increased patient satisfaction, decreased utilization of resources associated with iatrogenic injuries, and increased productivity of providers, cost savings may be realized.
