The strategy of orthodontic therapy in patients with clefts
1Department of Cleft Defects, University Hospital Královské Vinohrady, Prague, Czech Republic.
Abstract:
The first decade of life including the period of the first dentition and the beginning of the eruption of permanent dentition is an important period for a pretreatment of teeth anomalies due to clefts. A correct restoration of an overjet and the repair of maxillary cleft segments with autotransplantation of bone grafts form the basis for the subsequent growth of the middle face during adolescence. An incorrect strategy of orthodontic therapy with a persisting alveolar retroinclination, associated with a retroinclination of incisors and with nonrepaired segments of maxillary clefts promote nonstable results of orthodontic therapy with frequent recurrencies.
