Beyond dichotomies in the nursing of persons and families

The dichotomy of individual and family nursing has served the discipline well. However, the time has come for a reconciliation of these perspectives and the redefinition of nursing as inclusive of both individuals and families. A conceptual framework that draws distinctions among four different nursing focuses of persons and families is described.
