Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the prevalence and impact of chronotropic incompetence on exercise capacity in patients with CHF.
  • To determine if chronotropic incompetence is a significant limiting factor for exercise in this population.

  • Symptom-limited treadmill exercise tests with metabolic gas exchange were performed on 57 CHF patients and 14 controls.
  • Heart rate and blood pressure responses were monitored during exercise.
