Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Oncology
  • Vascular Surgery

Background:

  • Acquired cutaneous lymphangiectasia is a rare condition.
  • Its association with malignancy and surgical procedures is not well-documented.

Observation:

  • A case of acquired cutaneous lymphangiectasia is presented.
  • The patient had an underlying malignancy and recently underwent an arthrotomy.
  • Clinical and histological findings were consistent with acquired lymphangioma.

Findings:

  • Lymphangiography revealed signs of acquired lymphatic obstruction.
  • Both the underlying tumor and the arthrotomy were identified as potential contributing factors.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a potential complication of surgery in cancer patients.
  • It underscores the importance of considering iatrogenic lymphatic obstruction in acquired cutaneous lymphangiectasia.
  • Further research is needed to understand the pathogenesis and management of this condition.
