[The treatment possibilities in macular degeneration in the elderly]

Age-related macular degeneration represents one of the most frequent disease of the old ones. The functional deficit is manifested in varied grades up tot the practical blindness as it is in the case of the exudative form. It does not exist any complete treatment now to produce the healing of these diseases but it is trying to find some efficient methods to improve the visual function. The best results were obtained by laser photocoagulation only in the places where it was indicated in the right time, and the surgery technics for removing the retinal membranes pre- or subfovea are made to complete the therapeutics palette of the age-related macular degeneration. The medical treatment and the optic one for the visual rehabilitation are sometimes the only methods of treatment for these categories of patients.
