Calcium supplementation did not reduce rectal cell proliferation in individuals with a history of large bowel adenomas. This study found no evidence that calcium has an anti-cancer effect in the colon.

  • A multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded trial was conducted.
  • Participants with a history of removed large bowel adenomas received daily calcium carbonate (1200 mg elemental calcium) or placebo.
