Summary

This study quantified organ uptake and radiation dosimetry for indium-111 granulocytes (111In granulocytes) in healthy volunteers. Results confirm the liver, spleen, bone marrow, lungs, and kidneys as primary target organs.

Area of Science:

  • Nuclear Medicine
  • Medical Imaging
  • Radiation Dosimetry

Background:

  • Indium-111 granulocytes (111In granulocytes) are used in medical imaging.
  • Accurate organ uptake and dosimetry data are crucial for safety and efficacy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine organ uptake and radiation dosimetry in humans following 111In granulocyte administration.
  • To identify principal target organs for 111In granulocytes.

Main Methods:

  • Whole-body imaging of 10 normal volunteers after 111In granulocyte injection.
  • Quantification of fraction of injected activity (FIA) using geometric mean analysis.
  • Dosimetry calculations using MIRDOSE 2 software.

Main Results:

Related Experiment Videos

  • The liver showed the highest organ uptake (40.3% at 48 h).
  • Significant radiation doses were observed for the spleen, liver, red marrow, kidneys, and lungs.
  • Blood clearance half-time was 6.9 h with negligible excretion.

Conclusions:

  • The liver, spleen, bone marrow, lungs, and kidneys are the principal target organs for 111In granulocytes.
  • Improved quantification methods enhance organ uptake and dosimetry assessment.
  • Findings support safe clinical use of 111In granulocytes.
