Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Dermatology
  • Medical Chemotherapy

Context:

  • Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) treatment in Japan traditionally used peplomycin.
  • Recent advancements include cisplatin-based regimens for SCC, notably cisplatin and adriamycin (CA) chemotherapy.
  • CA chemotherapy demonstrates efficacy in both SCC and basal cell carcinoma (BCC).

Purpose:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of CA chemotherapy as a neoadjuvant therapy for SCC and BCC.
  • To report outcomes of CA chemotherapy in patients with multiple lung metastases of BCC.

Summary:

  • CA chemotherapy, combining cisplatin and adriamycin, is highlighted as a superior treatment option for SCC compared to peplomycin.
  • The regimen is also effective for basal cell carcinoma (BCC).

Related Experiment Videos

  • In a cohort of patients with multiple lung metastases of BCC treated over six years, CA chemotherapy achieved partial remission (PR) in three instances, with ongoing survival.
  • Impact:

    • CA chemotherapy presents a significant therapeutic advancement for managing SCC and BCC.
    • This neoadjuvant approach offers a promising strategy for advanced BCC with lung metastases.
    • The findings support the broader application of CA chemotherapy in relevant oncological and dermatological settings.
