Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Malignant cutaneous cylindroma is an exceptionally rare neoplasm.
  • It presents as either a solitary lesion or part of an autosomal dominant inherited multiple tumor syndrome.

Observation:

  • Two new cases of malignant cutaneous cylindroma within a single family afflicted with multiple cylindromas are presented.
  • Clinical and histopathologic data were compared with 26 previously reported cases.

Findings:

  • Malignant tumors exhibited rapid growth, ulceration, or bleeding, distinguishing them from benign counterparts.
  • Histopathology revealed a well-differentiated carcinoma in one case and a poorly differentiated tumor with lymph node metastasis in the other.
  • Metastasis led to patient mortality 2.5 years post-diagnosis.

Related Experiment Videos

Implications:

  • Malignant cutaneous cylindroma appears more prevalent in the multiple tumor variant.
  • This aggressive carcinoma demonstrates a propensity for local invasion and distant metastasis.
