Applications of the ChromaPhor Protein Recovery System

Abstract:
ChromaPhor protein stain binds to proteins during sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) in the mini-gel format. Because proteins are not fixed in the gel by ChromaPhor staining, they may be quickly and easily recovered using the ChromaPhor Protein Recovery System for use in further protein studies. We studied the recovery yields obtained using this system to recover proteins of various sizes from gel bands containing 2 micrograms of protein. We have obtained recovery yields in excess of 50% for a variety of proteins. We demonstrate that the ChromaPhor Protein Recovery System can be used to prepare pure protein for internal sequence determination and for antibody production. It is also possible to renature proteins recovered with this system.
