Midwifery portfolios: supporting the midwife

The UKCC has made clear recommendations for the development of Professional Profiles (portfolios). Senior midwives should recognise the importance of their responsibility in assisting junior colleagues in the preparation of portfolios. Midwives preparing portfolios need assistance in identifying their aspirations and in reflecting on current practice. Those assisting should consider themselves as facilitators of growth rather than judges of incompetence. Goals should be limited to four, and half of these should be short-term.
