Abstract:
In addition to their usual responsibilities, many nurses share valuable time, knowledge, experience, and compassion working as community volunteers. Thousands of Americans depend on services that could not be provided without the many hours of work contributed by volunteers. This article describes one day in the experience of a nurse who is a regular volunteer at a day center for the homeless. Patients' names have been changed to protect their privacy.
