Summary

Younger women, those with unexplained infertility, and specific estradiol patterns showed higher in vitro fertilization success rates. Transferring more embryos also correlated with increased pregnancy and multiple pregnancy rates in this study.

Area of Science:

  • Reproductive Medicine
  • In Vitro Fertilization
  • Clinical Research

Background:

  • Identifying prognostic indicators is crucial for optimizing in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes.
  • Understanding factors influencing both pregnancy and multiple pregnancy rates is essential for patient counseling and treatment protocols.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate potential prognostic indicators for successful pregnancy and multiple gestations in a dedicated IVF program.
  • To analyze the correlation between various patient and cycle-specific factors and IVF success.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective chart review of 160 oocyte retrievals was conducted.
  • Evaluated factors included patient demographics (age, diagnosis), hormonal profiles (follicle-stimulating hormone, estradiol levels and patterns), cycle day of oocyte retrieval, oocyte quality, and number of embryos transferred.

Main Results:

  • Factors associated with higher pregnancy and multiple pregnancy rates included: age ≤ 35 years, diagnosis of unexplained infertility, Pattern A early estradiol response, oocyte retrieval on day 16, ≤ 2 fractured oocytes, and transfer of ≥ 4 embryos.

Conclusions:

  • Specific patient characteristics and cycle parameters appear to be significant predictors of IVF success and multiple pregnancy risk.
  • These findings can inform clinical decision-making and patient selection for IVF treatment.
