  • A 190-item survey assessed the frequency and importance of behaviors across five subscales: Direct Caregiver, Consultant, Administrator/Coordinator, Researcher, and Educator.

  • Significant differences were found between advanced practice and generalist oncology nurses' roles.
  • Greatest similarities were in Direct Caregiver behaviors, while greatest differences were in Consultant and Researcher roles.
  • Advanced practice nurses most frequently performed and valued Direct Caregiver and Educator behaviors.

Conclusions:

  • Distinct differences exist between basic and advanced oncology nursing practice roles.
  • These findings were instrumental in creating the blueprint for the Advanced Oncology Nursing Certification Test.
