Background:

  • Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a complex condition with numerous complications.
  • Sexual dysfunction is a common complaint among diabetic patients.
  • Understanding the multifactorial etiology of diabetic impotence is essential for effective management.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the underlying causes of sexual dysfunction in patients with diabetes mellitus.
  • To differentiate between patients with and without sexual disorders.
  • To identify contributing vascular, neurologic, and psychiatric factors.

Main Methods:

  • Patients with diabetes mellitus were evaluated for sexual function.
  • Exclusion criteria included BPH, cerebrosclerosis, and other vascular-neurologic pathologies.

  • Diagnostic tools included hormonal assays, penile color-flow doppler, cavernosometry, cavernosography, bulbocavernous reflex latency time, somatosensory evoked potentials, and psychiatric assessments (Hamilton depression scale, MMPI).
