Purpose of the Study:

- A cohort of 17 IDDM patients with normal urinary albumin excretion (UAE) was followed for a median of 64 months.
- UAE and plasma vWF levels were measured at baseline and at three follow-up examinations.
- Patients were categorized based on UAE at the final examination (normal UAE vs. microalbuminuria).

- At follow-up, 6 out of 17 patients developed microalbuminuria.

- Plasma vWF is a potential early biomarker for predicting microalbuminuria in diabetic patients.
