Abstract:
The author of this review had the honour of delivering the First Konik's Lecture in the Joint Meeting of the Estonian Surgical Association and the Finnish Surgical Society on 12th May 1994 at the Sakala Centre, Tallinn, Estonia. In the introduction of this lecture the personal history of Konstantin Konik, a great Estonian surgeon, statesman and freedom fighter, was highlighted.
