A novel V- or W-shaped intralesional incision technique for tissue expander insertion offers a safe and advantageous alternative. This method demonstrated no complications in 50 procedures across 36 patients.

Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Surgical Techniques

Background:

  • Tissue expander insertion is a common procedure in reconstructive surgery.
  • Traditional incision methods can sometimes lead to complications.

Observation:

  • A new V- or W-shaped intralesional incision technique was developed for tissue expander insertion.
  • This technique was utilized in 50 consecutive cases between 1990 and 1993.

Findings:

  • The V- or W-shaped incisions showed a perfect safety record with zero complications.
  • These novel incisions proved advantageous compared to conventional tangential or radial approaches.

Implications:

  • The V- or W-shaped incision represents a potentially safer and more effective method for tissue expander placement.
