Summary

Neither computed tomography (CT) nor magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed superiority for early stroke detection. Both imaging methods became more effective at defining lesion limits after 24 hours.

Background:

  • Acute stroke diagnosis relies on timely and accurate imaging.
  • Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are key diagnostic tools.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the efficacy of CT and MRI in the early detection of ischemic stroke and hematoma.
  • To determine if one imaging modality is superior to the other in the initial hours after stroke onset.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective evaluation of acute stroke patients within 3 hours of onset.
  • Concurrent CT and MRI scans performed, with blinded interpretation by neurologists and radiologists.
