Area of Science:

  • Dental surgery
  • Implantology
  • Diagnostic techniques

Background:

  • Pre-implant surgical diagnosis requires precise measurement of alveolar ridge width.
  • Radiographic methods are commonly used, but alternative techniques are valuable.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present a novel ridge mapping technique for measuring alveolar crest width.
  • To evaluate the reliability and ease of use of this new technique.

Main Methods:

  • A specially designed caliper, the Ultimapper, was utilized for ridge mapping.
  • The technique was investigated through a research study.

Main Results:

  • The Ultimapper ridge mapping technique was found to be reliable.
  • The method was also determined to be easily performed by clinicians.

Conclusions:

  • Ridge mapping with the Ultimapper is a viable and practical method for assessing alveolar ridge width.
  • This technique can aid in surgical diagnosis before dental implant placement.
