|March 1, 1995
Abstract:
Although the use of heat in cancer therapy is not a new concept, recent advances in technology have allowed refinement and revival of this useful modality. This article reviews the biologic basis for heating, the rationale for combining hyperthermia with other brain tumor therapies, and various methods used to produce hyperthermia in brain tumor treatment. Unique challenges in the nursing care of brain tumor patients undergoing hyperthermia therapy also are discussed.
