Summary

Severe scleral thinning after retinal detachment repair was successfully treated using cadaveric dura mater. This case demonstrates the potential of dura mater grafts for scleral defect repair.

Observation:

  • A 34-year-old male patient experienced severe scleral thinning with imminent prolapse post-retinal detachment repair.
  • The patient underwent pars plana vitrectomy, endolaser photocoagulation, and perfluoropropane gas injection for retinal detachment.

Findings:

  • Cadaveric dura mater was utilized to successfully repair the extensive scleral defect.
  • The dura mater graft provided tectonic support, resolving the imminent prolapse and scleral thinning.

Implications:

  • Commercially prepared cadaveric dura mater is a viable option for tectonic grafting in cases of severe scleral thinning.
  • This surgical approach may offer a solution for managing scleral defects unresponsive to conventional methods.
