Area of Science:

  • Reproductive Medicine
  • Gynecologic Pathology

Background:

  • Primary ovarian pregnancy is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy.
  • Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are used for contraception.
  • The etiology and pathogenesis of ovarian pregnancy require further elucidation.

Observation:

  • A multiparous patient using an IUD for 5 years presented with a primary ovarian pregnancy.
  • The ovarian pregnancy was diagnosed preoperatively.
  • Diagnosis was confirmed histologically.

Findings:

  • Ovarian pregnancy is a rare complication, even with IUD use.
  • Preoperative diagnosis is possible.
  • Histological confirmation is essential.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of considering rare ectopic pregnancies in IUD users.
  • Improved diagnostic methods can aid in timely intervention.
  • Surgical management, such as oophorectomy, remains a treatment option.
