Background:

Understanding generational differences in attitudes toward war and patriotism is crucial.
Previous research suggests varying levels of civic engagement and nationalistic sentiment across age groups.

Purpose of the Study:

To compare the attitudes toward war, cynicism, and patriotism between college and high school students.
To identify potential differences in nationalistic perspectives influenced by educational level.

Main Methods:

A survey was administered to 180 college students and 31 high school students.
Participants responded to measures assessing attitudes toward war, cynicism, and patriotism.

Main Results:

No significant differences were found between college and high school students regarding positive attitudes toward war.
Similarly, levels of cynicism did not differ significantly between the two student groups.
College students exhibited significantly less patriotic attitudes compared to high school students.

Conclusions:

Educational level may influence patriotic attitudes, with higher education potentially correlating with reduced patriotism.
Attitudes toward war and general cynicism appear consistent across late high school and early college years.
Further research is needed to explore the factors contributing to these observed attitudinal differences.
