[Subgingival application of antibiotics: literature review]
Abstract:
Recently, several systems of topical antibiotic administration have been investigated. Most systems use sustained release devices to obtain high levels of antibiotics in the deepened periodontal pockets. Metronidazole and tetracycline can be administered without causing systemic side-effects. All systems summarized in this article are to be used after scaling and root planing of the diseased sites to increase the effect of the mechanical treatment.
