Summary

Commercial hexane vapor inhalation did not affect rat reproduction over two generations. High-level exposure (9000 ppm) reduced offspring body weight gain, but reproductive health remained unaffected. Occupational exposure limits are likely safe.

Purpose of the Study:

    Conclusions:

    • Two-generation inhalation exposure to commercial hexane resulted in reduced body weight gain at 9000 ppm but did not adversely affect reproductive parameters in rats.
    • Current occupational exposure limits for n-hexane and other hexane isomers are unlikely to pose a reproductive hazard to humans.
