Reshaping the nurse practitioner image through socialization

The image of the NP is bound to the traditional image of nursing, often impeding progress toward autonomous nursing practice. Through socialization NPs can be empowered to reshape their image, enabling them to educate the public to identify NPs as autonomous providers of health care. This is necessary to enhance the NP's ability to function in the future health care arena.
